Providence Health & Services Lab Assistant - Portland Service Area in Vancouver, Washington

Providence is calling Lab Assistant’s (1, 2, & 3) to clinical laboratory settings in the Portland Metro area. If you are someone that is looking for a rewarding position with a Mission driven organization with focus on caring for the poor and vulnerable, then this is the place for you!

We are seeking individuals with great customer service skills, proficient with various computer applications and knowledge of specimen handling, collection requirements and general laboratory workflows. Providence Lab Assistants are placed into a Level 1, 2, or 3 based on experience with specific skill sets and responsibilities. Candidates will be hired into openings based on these requirements and availability for the departments business needs.

In this position, you will:

  • Be responsible for the accurate and timely receiving, processing, and labeling of laboratory specimens, and the appropriate handling and/or disbursement of laboratory data and patient results.

  • Support personnel work with acute-care and outpatient caregivers, vendors, consultants, and other Laboratory Services staff in performing their duty.

  • Be responsible for registering outpatient laboratory encounters obtaining complex demographic, insurance, and medical information.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and competency on required registration functions.

  • Utilize multiple computer applications in order to complete patient encounters.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 year of healthcare or related field experience, or a combination of applicable experience and education

  • Demonstrated outstanding Service Excellence experience

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computer applications

  • Clerical or client services experience

  • Phlebotomy may be required in float pool and some ministries

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • 2 years of college experience and/or Associate degree

  • Graduation from a Clinical Laboratory Assistant program or Phlebotomy program

  • Certification from an approved government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), etc.)

  • Industry related experience in a high volume, acute care setting

  • 2 years of Phlebotomy, medical assisting, research, clinical laboratory experience, or certification

  • Experience in specimen collection, specimen preparation and equipment operation, pneumatic tubes systems and other laboratory equipment

  • Knowledge of specimen handling and collection requirements, general laboratory workflow and basic medical terminology, Biology, understanding of Laboratory Medicine, anatomy and physiology, or equivalent exposure to these topics
